According to the mover of the project, the private of 308 battalion, the gunner of II company Jeronimas Kraulis there was no place of eternal rest for prewar Lithuanian army’s soldiers. Therefore he had a beautiful idea to set up graves for 1944 year Lithuanian army’s soldiers volunteers. In 2007 it was got the then mayor of Vilnius A. Zuokas permission to set up graves for 21 volunteers and their spouses. In 2008 this project was realised by UAB “Amžinasis akmuo”, which won the contest.
From 1918 the graves of soldiers were the same in all Lithuania, but scattered all across many cemeteries. By that time standards all gravestones were concrete. This time granite was chosen, in order that even after many years the graves of soldiers will not disappear. This beautiful idea organised all – both lieutenants and privates – 1944 year Lithuanian army’s volunteers to be buried for eternal rest in one cemetery.
